Diaries
(LoveLife)
“I visited a youth centre in Orange Farm and learned about the Love Life Youth program which deals with HIV/AIDS prevention and other issues teens face. The program is amazing. At the youth centre, they have computer courses, a radio station, and lots of programs to involve the community. One thing that they lacked was resources! They recently added a library, but they desperately need books. They also need other upgrades as well, but they are doing amazing work with what they have”

(Refugee Youth)
“I attended an event at the UN library in Pretoria where refugee youth put on an incredible performance of dance, poetry, testimonials, drama, and a fashion show. After the performance, we engaged in a dialog and Q&A session about the International Year of Youth, their lives, futures, dreams etc. The program was put on by a youth founded and run organization called ADE with the support of UNHCR. I was deeply moved by the performances and the resilience of these beautiful youth. At one point the ensemble performed to Michael Jackson’s song Heal the World and my slightly teary eyes almost became drenched with sobs. It was really beautiful”
(Kids Haven)
“I visited a shelter for girls who have been rescued or prevented from entering trafficking. The girls go to school, do chores, and are taught the essentials to be productive citizens. I visited the New Life Centre house, and some girls from Kids Haven joined as well. I was greeted by a crowd of girls carrying a quilt that they'd sewn displaying messages about child labor. It was POWERFUL to say the least. There was also a poster that read "let me be a child". I toured the facility and saw their vegetable garden. Also, the girls did short presentations on child labor and a few dances. We engaged in a Q & A afterwards”
